Keith Gibson - Lead and Rhythm Guitar
Growing up in Memphis it wasn't long before Keith was turned on to the mix of musical styles that made the Bluff City famous.
In his early teens he bought his first guitar. “I can still remember the model number today. It was a YamahaSC300T... a Stratocaster copy that I literally played until my fingers bled”; he noted.
Throughout high school Keith became more and more involved with music -playing rock and pop with a his friends in talent shows and performing with the school's jazz band. Towards the end of his senior year he teamed up with bassist/vocalist Chris Jones and sought out a drummer to form a 'power trio’. The triangle was completed that summer when he met fellow lifeguard and musician, Dick Butler. The three went on to form Over The Edge, a hard driving rock group that played the college scene and headlined local Memphis clubs like 616.
After performing with Over The Edge for several years and studying classical guitar at the University of Memphis under renowned artist, Lily Afshar, Keith moved to Nashville to complete his recording industry degree. He said, “I was always intrigued by the business side of music and was eager to get involved in not only the marketing of music, but also the creative process of recording.”
After graduation, Keith worked his way up the ladder to become a director of sales/marketing, along the way working for labels like Sony Music (Columbia and Epic Records), OneMusic, Orbison Records and as an independent music consultant. In 1993 Keith met singer/songwriter, Pound Lamb. Not long after, the two began performing together at popular songwriters venues like the Bluebird Cafe. It was there that the duo was invited by WRLT (Lightning 100) disc jockey, Peter Rodman, to perform on-air during a songwriters show featuring Steve Winwood. Over the years Keith and Pound remained great friends and in 2003 the two teamed up to form the Whiskey Trippers.
